Kat Point Kitchen

Type

Cottage

Kat Point is a new build designed as an escape for a busy family who work in the GTA. This kitchen is the heart of their cottage, and an important space for socializing and relaxing together. Given the size of this space, and the project budget, we were able to design a stunning kitchen loaded with customized features. Some of our favourites: a slide-in step stool for quick access to high cabinets, Kat Point branded cutting boards with leather pulls that slide in beside the stove, and a hidden touch-latch cupboard behind the chalkboard for storing keys to the cottage toys. We also placed tipout drawers under the chalkboard to hold grab-and-go deck supplies like bug spray and sunscreen.

As members of the design trade, this client had several requests for materials and lighting design, such as having matte countertops to avoid reflections from lighting. We selected Cambria Matte, which is elegant, silky smooth and top-notch for durability. The cabinetry, handcrafted here in Haliburton, is made with gorgeous black walnut. And we added other artisinal features too: stained glass from a Haliburton artist, and tiles made by an artist in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood that were glazed to complement the coffee station. The icing on the cake: a sconce the owners found during a buying trip to Milan.
