STORY
Our clients wanted to add more living space to their new cottage while respecting the look and feel of the original by reusing existing materials and sticking to its small footprint. To winterize the cottage, the building was elevated and a basement was dug out underneath. The only logical spot for the stairs to the basement was on the side of the cottage in front of the kitchen window. Our team suggested flipping the kitchen layout while keeping the general look and feel of the existing cabin.

We created a U-shaped workspace and installed a larger window that provides a beautiful view overlooking the lake. One of the beams that was removed from the main living area was reused to create trim around the range hood. A built-in banquette was installed against the wall beside the fridge, across from the glass doors that go out to the deck. The banquette doubles as a couch where our clients enjoy eating meals, reading books or building puzzles.
